This is a 4 years long Undergraduate Program. On completion of the program, successful candidates are provided Class 4 Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency. This certificate is awarded by the Ministry of Shipping. After 6 months of sea service, candidates may become Marine Engineers on any Merchant Navy ship!
Candidate are required to satisfy the age limit criteria. They should be between 17-25 years of age when the course starts. Only 12th Science stream students with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects, who have successfully cleared the board examinations are eligible to apply for this course. Aggregate marks requirement is 60% marks. GME course is a pre-sea training course for Graduates. It is a 1 year long program. On completion of the program, candidates are awarded the Class 4 Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency. This certificate is awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, India. After 6 months of Sea service, candidates may become Marine Engineers on Merchant Navy ships in any part of the World!

Only Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture Graduates are eligible to apply for this program. Aspirants should also have scored minimum 50% marks in the final year.

Entrance Exams Navy

After completion of 12th class, interested candidates can appear for the Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) or the All India Merchant Navy Entrance Exam. This exam is generally conducted in the month of May. The other exams that can also serve as a gateway for Marine Engineering are JEE, MERI Entrance Exam, TIMSAT.

Eligibility Criteria:

10th for GP rating Course.
For Deck cadet and Engine cadet: 10+2 with PCM 60%.

Application for the exam can be done online. Along with the application form, applicants have to submit a brief summary of 100 words that states why they wish to apply for Merchant Navy.

This exam is an MCQ pattern test spanning over subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, General Knowledge and Reasoning.
